Kern County SHRM strives to develop human resource professionals within the regional business community by providing essential knowledge and education; facilitating opportunities for personal interaction; and serving as liaison and advocate to other regional, state and national entities.
Consistent with Kern County SHRM’s commitment to our members, education, and the community, the organization is proud to award scholarships to members who have the desire to advance their human resources knowledge. Scholarships will be awarded, based on available funding, to selected applicant(s) who meet the following minimum criteria.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CRITERIA
Eligibility and Payment Terms
1. Applicant must be a member of Kern County SHRM (Dual or Student) in good standing at the time of application.
2. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
(a) Be currently registered for, or have paid for, a recognized HR certification exam (e.g., SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, SPHR, etc.) scheduled during the calendar year of the scholarship award; or
(b) Be currently enrolled in a degree‑seeking associate, undergraduate, or graduate program directly related to Human Resources with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
3. This scholarship is awarded on a reimbursement basis only. No funds will be disbursed in advance of eligible expenses. Reimbursement of up to $600 is contingent upon the recipient’s submission of required documentation, including proof of payment and verification of exam participation or qualifying enrollment. Reimbursement requests must be submitted within the timeframe established by the scholarship administrator, which is within one calendar year from the date the scholarship is awarded. Failure to satisfy these requirements will result in forfeiture of the scholarship award.
4. Applicant will not be eligible for an award if they have received the scholarship in the past two years.
5. Application must be completed in full, with a short bio, headshot, and all supporting documentation attached at time of submission.

Application acceptance period closes: September 01, 2026.

Submissions are considered complete when a confirmation email is sent by the Kern County SHRM President.
All criteria above are subject to consideration upon review and verification by the Kern County SHRM board. Scholarship award recipients are typically notified within eight (8) weeks of the application deadline. The board reserves the right to deny any candidate at its discretion.
